  • Tactical shotgun training

I've turned my Mossberg 500A pump action 'Persuader' shotgun into an impressive home defense weapon. A shotgun is the ultimate home defense weapon as it is, with the very intimidating sound of a shell being chambered ( Cha-Chuck!) that is almost certain to cause an intruder to piss his pants or send him fleeing out the back door. However, you can do a few things to customize it to best suit your preferences and needs.

I have my shotgun equipped with a composite stock (which resembles a standard factory stock but has a pistol grip as well) and a front forend pistol grip. This allows me to quickly transition from holding the gun by the pistol grips while moviing around corners to bringing up to my shoulder to fire with a bit more accuracy and stability. I've also got a front tactical light mounted, so I can see without having to flip a light switch. I will also be adding a shot shell holder onto the stock to give me five more rounds of ammo should I need to reload.

Anyway, I found a seven part series on youtube that is basically a crash course in tactical shotgun maneuvers that offers some really great info on using your shotgun more effectively in a self defense situation. They are linked below.

FYI, I purchased my composite stock from www.combatstocks.com , my front forend pistol grip from www.combathunting.com. I also recommend www.cheaperthandirt.com. They have some good stuff there at really reasonable prices.

  • Wal Mart stampede kills man

Read this story this morning and was horrified. Fatal consumerism, I guess you could call it. Verily, I tell you that there were more people that went away upset and angry that they didn't find the bargain they came for than were saddened a man lost his life.

A Wal-Mart store was the scene of chaos this morning.

A Wal-Mart worker died after being trampled when hundreds of shoppers smashed through the doors of a Long Island store Friday morning, police and witnesses said.
The 34-year-old worker, employed as an overnight stock clerk, tried to hold back the unruly crowds just after the Valley Stream store opened at 5 a.m.
Witnesses said the surging throngs of shoppers knocked the man down. He fell and was stepped on. As he gasped for air, shoppers ran over and around him.
"He was bum-rushed by 200 people," said Jimmy Overby, 43, a co-worker. "They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down too...I literally had to fight people off my back."
The unidentified victim was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:03 a.m., police said.
The cause of death was pending.
A 28-year-old pregnant woman was knocked to the floor during the mad rush. She was hospitalized for observation, police said.
Three other shoppers suffered minor injuries, cops said.
Before police shut down the store, eager shoppers streamed past emergency crews as they worked furiously to save the store clerk's life.
"They were working on him, but you could see he was dead, said Halcyon Alexander, 29. "People were still coming through."
    Only a few stopped.
"They're savages," said shopper Kimberly Cribbs, 27. "It's sad. It's terrible."

  • Military Commission Act and the destruction of Habeus Corpus

The Military Commissions Act of 2006 gives the president absolute power to decide who is an enemy of our country and to imprison people indefinitely without charging them with a crime. When policies like this are put into place, most people think ' Hey cool, now we can really gain the upper hand against the terrorists.' That may be the case, but the definition of 'terrorist' is starting to get really vague. There may come a day very soon where 'hate crimes' are considered a form of domestic terrorism. What's wrong with that? Well, the definition of 'hate crime' is starting to get really vague as well. In Canada, printing scripture from the Holy Bible that condemns homosexuality is considered a hate crime. Terrorism is defined as 'using violence or intimidation in pursuit of political aims'. If a group of people such as homosexuals claim they feel threatened by the 'intolerance' of Christians, could condemnation of their lifestyle be ruled 'domestic terrorism'? Who can say, but it's not that far fetched. The point is, when the government starts bending the rules and putting loophole policies into place that trample our liberties so that they may 'keep us safe', then inevitably those laws are going to be misused and abused by someone. Here are some facts about the MCA of 2006 that should make you concerned.

    Eliminates due process.

This law removes the Constitutional due process right of habeas corpus for persons the president designates as unlawful enemy combatants. It allows our government to continue to hold hundreds of prisoners more than four years without charges, with no end in sight.

    Rejects core American values.

Habeas corpus, the basic right to have a court decide if a person is being lawfully imprisoned, is what separates America from other countries. To do away with this American value makes us more like those we are fighting against. It is time to restore due process, defend the Constitution, and protect what makes us Americans.

The last Congress was asleep at the wheel.

The only thing scarier than a government that would take away our basic freedoms is a Congress that would let it happen. Congress must correct that mistake and restore habeas corpus and due process, and define enemy combatants as only those who engage in hostilities against the United States.

    Permits coerced evidence.

The act permits convictions based on evidence that was literally beaten out of a witness, or obtained through other abuse by either the federal government or by other countries.

Turns a blind eye to past abuses.

Government officials who authorized or ordered illegal acts of torture and abuse would receive retroactive immunity for their crimes, providing them with a ‘get out of jail free' card.

Makes the president his own judge and jury.

Under the Military Commissions Act, the president has the power to define what is — and what is not — torture and abuse, even though the Geneva Conventions already provide us with a guide.

Congress must fix the Military Commissions Act.
By giving any president the unchallenged power to decide which non-citizen is an enemy of our country — and eliminating habeas corpus due process for them, we allow the government to imprison people indefinitely without charging them with a crime. It is time for Congress to restore due process, defend the Constitution and protect what makes us Americans.

  • Bush pardons

I just read today that President Bush pardoned 17 people and commuted 2 prison sentences. Among those people are drug dealers, thieves and liars. Not among those are Ramos and Compean, the two border agents who were crucified by the US government for popping a cap in an illegal alien smuggling a couple hundred pounds of drugs across the border. Nice work, George. I'd officially like to apologize to America for voting for him twice. Feel free to kick me right in the nuts when you see me.
